- Special features of the module
This module consists of parts of the Flight Test Rating according to EASA regulations. With this contents this module is a fundamental part of the study programme AFE (main target of this programme is to qualify students for the area of 'technical aviation')
- Brief description
Issues relevant to flight testing are introduced here in a fundamental way. The aim is to develop mastery of the relevant content for the professional future - as well as to motivate the students to be able to work safely and in an application-oriented manner in this area. The corresponding learning processes are supported by various media.

- Exam duration and scope
Project report (written): approx. 20 pages
- Recommended prior knowledge
- Fluidmechanics and Electrical Engineering / Measurement modules need to be passed
- at least a passed theory examination for the Private Pilot Licence
- Knowledge Broadening
After successfully completing the module, students have the competence to work on the relevant basic questions in the field of flight testing. Students know the basic structures and properties of flight tests; they can present, explain, illustrate, classify and define them. They are able to carry out and plan simple flight tests.
- Knowledge deepening
In this module, students apply interdisciplinary knowledge and significantly deepen their knowledge through practice-relevant tasks from flight testing through practical ground and flight tests. Students have the knowledge to assess, describe and discuss the behavior of aircraft and to determine the flight characteristics of aircraft.
- Knowledge Understanding
- Application and Transfer
Carrying out practical ground and flight tests / flight measurement data reduction (partly software based): The students can select suitable components for carrying out flight tests. They can use common test methods and record and display measurement values. The students can evaluate flight test results and present them in a measurement protocol that ensures the reproducibility of the measurement. The students have acquired increased interdisciplinary competence in describing and analyzing flight tests using the example of recorded data.
- Academic Innovation
Combining theoretical knowledge from previous modules with practical flight tests. This module lays down essential skills and abilities in flight testing. The students are able to derive and define research questions and apply research methods.
- Communication and Cooperation
The final exam will be a written project report. This prepares the students to write a bachelor thesis or a technical report. Technical reports are the typical way of communication in the flight test sector into the surrounding disciplines.
